46 Forschungszentrum Jülich | Annual Report 2011 Appointments of Jülich Researchers to Universities Dr. Manuel Angst, head of the Young In- vestigators Group “Complex Ordering Phenomena in Multifunctional Oxides” at the Peter Grünberg Institute, was ap- pointed junior professor of experimental physics at RWTH Aachen University. Dr. habil. J. Sabine Becker, Central Divi- sion of Analytical Chemistry, held a se- ries of lectures as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Medicine in the Université de Sherbrooke in Québec (Canada) and at Mahidol University Bangkok in Thai- land. Dr. Ing. Michael Butzek, Central Institute for Technology, was offered a professor- ship for project management and ma- chine elements at Aachen University of Applied Sciences. Prof. Dr. Simon Eickhoff, Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine, was ap- pointed professor at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf; he was also of- fered a professorship at LMU Munich. Prof. Dr. Gereon Fink, Institute of Neuro- science and Medicine, was elected the First Prorector and Prorector for Re- search and Junior Scholars at the Univer- sity of Cologne on 13 July 2011. Dr. Jörg Fitter, Institute of Complex Systems, was appointed professor of biophysics at RWTH Aachen University. Prof. Dr. Klaus Günther, Institute of Bio- and Geosciences, was appointed honor- ary professor by the State Key Laborato- ry of Food Science & Technology (SKLF) at Nanchang University in China. He al- so received an invitation to lecture as visiting professor for environmental sci- ences at the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology in Saudi Arabia. Prof. Sonja Grün, Institute of Neurosci- ence and Medicine (INM), was appoint- ed professor of theoretical systems neu- robiology at RWTH Aachen University and head of the statistical neuroscience working group at INM. Dr. David Head, Institute of Complex Systems, was appointed as a lecturer in theoretical and translational biofilm re- search for a Tenure-Track Fellowship at the School of Computing in the Universi- ty of Leeds (UK). Dr. Hans-Joachim Krause, Peter Grün- berg Institute, was invited to work as a visiting professor at the Pierre and Ma- rie Curie University in Paris. Dr. Marco Oldiges, Institute of Bio- and Geosciences, was appointed professor of bioprocess analytics at RWTH Aachen University. He declined an appointment at the University of Münster as profes- sor of microbial biotechnology. Prof. Dirk Pleiter, Jülich Supercomputing Centre, was offered a professorship at the Institute of Theoretical Physics in the University of Regensburg. Dr. Franz Rohrer, Institute of Energy and Climate Research, was appointed adjunct professor at the School of Physics, National University of Ireland, Galway, for an initial period of three years. Dr. Roland Sparing, Institute of Neuro- science and Medicine, was appointed professor of stroke and neurorehabilita- tion at the University of Cologne. Dr. Robert Steinberger-Wilckens, Insti- tute of Energy and Climate Research, was appointed Director of the Centre for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research at the School of Chemical Engineering in the University of Birmingham. Hands-on science and research – this is the mantra of the JuLab Schools Laboratory of Forschungszentrum Jülich. Dr. Wilhelm Schäffer, State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Integration and Social Affairs, visited JuLab in December 2011.
